A Student's Lessons

They say, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink."
I say, "You can teach a student lessons, but can you make him think."
Meaningful lessons given; Meaningful lessons taught,
but it’s up to the student who's receiving, to give it meaningful thought.
Valuable lessons that you have given, how can they be learned?
Perhaps, by life’s experiences, the value is finally truly earned.

Sometimes we learn life's lessons the hard way. When we learn this way, we go through difficult times we could have avoided, but I believe the lessons we've learned tends to stay with us. Still, I would rather learn by listening than by experiencing the pain. I have learned both ways.
How about you?
